Kinderkrew is a children’s literacy program based in Waltham Forest. It is designed to instil a lifelong passion for reading and learning, fostering a love of stories and knowledge from the earliest years of life. The program is unique in that it creates a welcoming space not only for young children but also for their parents and caregivers, emphasising the importance of family involvement in early education. It’s more than just a literacy initiative—it’s a vibrant community hub where families can come together to socialise, enjoy a healthy snack, drink tea & coffee, learn, and support one another in a warm and inclusive environment.
At the heart of Kinderkrew is the idea that literacy starts early and grows stronger when nurtured by family. Parents and carers play a key role in their children’s development, and Kinderkrew provides the resources and support to help them guide their little ones through the magical journey of reading. From fun storytelling sessions to interactive reading activities, the program is designed to engage babies and toddlers with books, fostering curiosity and imagination, enriching language and expanding vocabulary.

A passion for reading stories

A passion for early reading is rooted in the understanding that stories shape young minds. Early exposure to books opens pathways for language development, creativity, and emotional growth, empowering children to connect with ideas and cultures beyond their own. Encouraging early reading fosters a sense of wonder and confidence, creating a strong foundation that supports children not only academically but also in understanding themselves and the world around them.

Hazera Ashraf, founder of KinderKrew, is a primary school teacher and mother who passionately advocates for early reading. She understands the essential role early reading plays in setting children up for future success and believes it’s a key to developing bright, confident minds.
